The Fire Breathing Dragon
Happening somewhere right now…
“Midge,” says Podge.
“Yes, Podge,” says Midge.
“A very large letter has arrived,” says Podge. “And it’s a little burnt.”
Midge reads the very large letter from a very large fire breathing dragon that lives near the northern tower.
“Road trip!” says Midge and Podge packs snacks for the way.
When they arrive the fire breathing dragon lies, unenthused, in front of her tower.
“I’m Midge,” says Midge. “Your fairy godmother.”
“Finally!” says the fire breathing dragon, spitting flames. “I’ve been writing to you fairy godmothers for months! No one would come. No one wants to work anymore!”
“Dragons can be intimidating,” says Midge.
“I’m not scared,” says Podge.
“Well, that’s because toads are a distant cousin of the dragon,” says Midge.
Podge smiles, happy to learn that tidbit. The dragon frowns, not totally sure if that’s true.
“How can we help?” asks Midge.
“I’m tired of breathing fire and guarding this tower,” says the dragon. “I want to get out and see the world. I want to find a tower of my own. I want to be a mom!”
“Who’s in the tower? A princess?” asks Midge.
“No, just a lot of treasure,” says the dragon.
“Whose treasure?” asks Podge.
“King Gerry,” says the dragon.
“I have good news!” says Midge. “King Gerry has been exiled. From what I hear, the new Queen has abandoned her husband’s lust for gold and now runs a farm to table restaurant in town.”
“It’s called iFarm. It’s pretty good,” says Podge.
“Ok, so I can leave, and no one will care?” asks the dragon.
“That’s right,” says Midge.
“Where to begin? Where should I go? Who will I meet?” says the fire breathing dragon, flying high into the air.
“Spain is supposed to be nice,” says Podge.
“I love tapas!” says the fire breathing dragon, before returning to the earth with a look of worry in her eye. “But I really shouldn’t go gallivanting around mainland Europe right now. I need to have a baby soon… I’m already 1,200 years old!”
“One moment,” says Midge, flying into the tower. After a few bursts of light and a high pitched cry, a golden baby dragon emerges from the tower doors.
“My baby!” says the fire breathing dragon. The baby burps and a golden flame erupts from the sharp grin.
“What will you call her?” asks Podge.
“Treasure!” says the dragon. “Thank you, Midge, for being the only fairy brave enough to help a dragon… and to bring another one into the world.”
“Enjoy Spain!” says Midge.
“Adios!” says Podge.
Treasure burps another golden flame before the dragons disappear into the sky.
“Are you hungry?” asks Midge.
“Always,” says Podge.
“Let’s check out iFarm,” says Midge, and the coworkers went to try some of the Queen’s fresh eggs.
