The Normal Woman

Happening somewhere right now…

“Anyone in?” asks a human woman, bending down to look into the fairy godmother’s office at the base of a tree.

“Hi,” says Midge, flying up to meet her. “How can I help you?”

“Can you make my chin less big?” asks the woman.

“That’s not really how this works,” says Midge. “It’s more of a… I help you along sort of thing. Not so much a grant your wish thing.”

“Really?” asks the woman. “That’s exactly how I thought it worked.”

“I guess I could try…” says Midge.

“It’s just so big,” says the woman.

“Really?” asks Midge. “I think it’s the perfect size. If it was any smaller where would all your moles go?”

“I don’t want moles,” says the woman.

“Really?” asks Podge, who has hopped out of the office to take a look himself. “And what about the little black hairs?”

“I don’t want those either!” says the woman.

“That’s strange for a witch,” says Midge.

“I’m not a witch,” says the woman. “I’m just a normal woman!”

“Oh,” says Midge. “Really? Cause you look like a witch.”

“Exactly!” says the normal woman.

“Still. I wouldn’t change your chin. Sometimes you think you want something to be different, and then it’s different, and you don’t like it as much.”

“I don’t think that would happen,” says the woman, touching her giant chin.

“My senior project was reducing a prince’s forehead by a half inch. It’s what he thought he wanted. Then he hated it.”

“Really?” says the woman, now stroking her massive chin.

“Yeah, I think my professor was trying to do a ‘be careful what you wish for’ type lesson,” says Midge. “It took all of spring break to get the prince’s forehead back to its original size. And he paid extra for express treatment.”

“Okay,” says the normal woman. “Let me think about it.”

“How about some lip gloss?” says Podge from below.

“Great idea,” says Midge, who makes a tube of strawberry gloss appear in the normal woman’s hand. The woman puts some on and admits she feels beautiful. Her chin is still very large, but strawberry is her favorite scent.
